Camping
The following are directions from the town of Newport to the event site situated in the Nephin Beg Mountain range. From Newport take the N59 towards Mulranny. Take the second right on the way out of town sign posted Nephin Drive (Large brown sign). Continue on this road heading north, you pass straight through one cross road continuing on the Nephin drive. The campsite will be on the left hand side of the road.
The campsite will be open to competitors for tent set up from 6pm on Friday evening the 18th of June. We invite you to join us on Friday evening and get into the spirit of the event - meet the event crew and other race goers. Camping is free for all competitors and their supporters.
The campsite will be closed to vehicles from 10am on Saturday morning for reasons of safety. It will re-open to vehicles at 2.30pm on Sunday 20th of June. The event campsite closes to all at 6pm on Sunday evening.
When the race is finished on Sunday afternoon all competitors must pack up and leave the campsite, there will be no camping available on the Sunday evening.
Campervans are allowed at the campsite. This is however weather dependent. Should there be heavy rainfall before the event the organisers reserve the right to stop campervans from entering the camp. This is to avoid damage to the terrain and campervans getting stuck in the mud!
Due to the notorious weather in the west of Ireland plans for the campsite may change closer to the event time due to rain. A park and ride option may be put in place to avoid vehicles in the campsite. Competitors will be notified if this is to happen closer to the event.
We would ask that all campers keep noise to a minimum from 10pm until 8am in the campsite as competitors will be catching much needed Z's in between laps of the course.
We ask that all campers keep their areas clean and free of rubbish. If everyone could please observes a 'leave not trace but footprints' policy when they leave the campsite and bring all rubbish with you.
No fires allowed at any time. Barbeques are fine as long as they are off the ground and do not damage the area.
The campsite is not a fully serviced campsite; it is a field that has been set up as a campsite for the purposes of this event. Competitors must bring their own lighting and there are no showering facilities at the campsite.
It is important to note that the campsite is a 20 minute drive from Newport and thus any shops, pubs etc. For your own convenience please pick up any last minute supplies here as during race hours (13.30 Sat - 14.00 Sun) there is no exit/entry to campsite by vehicles; this is due to traffic restrictions.
Campsite facilities include:
- Toilets
- Marquee
- Battery charging facilities
- Running water
- Small shop
- Bike service station - Moycullen Bike Works will be providing this service
PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO MOBILE PHONE COVERAGE AT OR AROUND THE CAMPSITE
Should a competitor need to be contacted due to a personal emergency the following number can be called and a message left. The number will be confirmed closer to the race. This number will be in effect from Saturday 19th until the race end Sunday 20th of June.
Please ensure friends and family do not call this number unless there is an EMERGENCY.
