5 What is the Road Bike challenge?

Get involved in the 24 hour road bike challenge as a soloist or with friends!

24 hour racing is a fairly new concept and we ran the first event of its kind in ireland in 2009.

Don’t be put off by the name, you won’t be literally cycling for 24 hours. If you’re not a fitness fanatic then why not think about joining as a team. Every team member must complete one lap as a minimum which is achievable for even the Sunday cyclists.

Road Route

The Road Biking Route for 2010 has been finalised!

The route for the 2010 road route is approximately 25km long. This route is mainly on small country roads so caution is required when going around corners.

We ask that all riders adhere to the rules of the road and ride in single file. Although there will be large signs warning motorists that the race is on and intersections will be marshalled the road is NOT closed to traffic so be aware of motorists.

As stated in the rules high visibility gear is a mandatory requirement and competitors who fail to adhere to this rule will be disqualified.

A map of the route can be found below. To download this map click on the following New_Road_route__2_.pdf

6 What is the Mountain Bike Challenge?

24 hour Mountain bike challenges have been around for a number of years and are proving to be popular amongst riders of all descriptions, from the pro mountain biker to those just new to the sport. 2010 will be the second year this event runs in Ireland.

Don’t be put off by the name, 24hr Cycle Challenge. you won’t be literally cycling for 24 hours! If you’re not fitness fanatic then why not think about joining as a team. Every team member must complete one lap as a minimum which is achievable for even the weekend warriors.

Mountain Bike route

This is the second year of this event. For 2009 we built some sections of single track through the forest and joining the Bangor trail and Western Way.

We endeavour this year to create more off road sections for the mountain bike track and this has been the cause of delay with the finalisation of the route. The route takes in some amazing scenery, it has less uphill and at 15km it's a bit shorter than last year, we have decided to keep the hill climb as it added an interesting and sometimes welcomed element to the course. The new section of track we hope is going to be part of the Bangor way which involves fairly technical downhill, although not too steep. Another new element we are hoping to add into the race is a 500m section of board walk. We are currently waiting on the approval from the various governing bodies!

Please note NO spectators are allowed on the mountain bike track between 1pm Saturday 19th and 2pm Sunday 20th of June.
