Environmental Policy
Gaelforce Events aim to promote and inspire responsible outdoor recreation. We are constantly looking for ways to make our events more eco-friendly.
We believe in the ‘Leave no trace’ network which promotes the Seven Principles of Leave No Trace;
- Plan Ahead and Prepare
- Be Considerate of Others
- Respect Farm Animals and Wildlife
- Travel and Camp on Durable Ground
- Leave What You Find
- Dispose of Waste Properly
- Minimise the Effects of Fire
Practising a Leave No Trace ethic is very simple: Make it hard for others to see or hear you and LEAVE NO TRACE of your visit.
Visit www.leavenotraceireland.org for more information on the seven principles of leave no trace.
Our Vision
We hope to eliminate disposable plastic bottles from all of our races by encouraging the use of re-useable ones.
Competitors will be asked to bring their own cups, plates, cutlery etc to events such as the 24hr cycle to eliminate the use of paper and plastic utensils.
Competitors will be asked to bring their own bags out on the course for their personal litter. We will provide more bins this year along race routes to ensure rubbish is disposed of in a responsible manner.
We encourage all competitors & supporters to Car pool were possible on their journeys to the events and during the events.
Into the future we are also looking at solar powered showers, combustion toilets to eliminate the use of chemicals, Alternative event power supplies. Ideas to improve environmentally are always welcome.
Litter
Littering is a central concern not only to race organisers, but also those who live in and utilise the countryside, mountains, beaches etc. We are confident in the environmental ethos of all of our competitors, but to minimize the chance of any temptation to litter, we will introduce a strict littering policy.
Each competitor/team is required to dispose of their waste, including human waste, properly by utilising provided rubbish bins and portaloos. Failure to comply with this will result in disqualification from the race. We encourage everyone to report any littering by other competitors/teams.
Remember just because something is animal, vegetable, or mineral, doesn't mean it belongs in the wild. A banana or orange peel can take longer to decompose to than a piece of paper!
Our office
Our offices based at Killary Adventure Co. are part powered by a wind turbine.
We don’t not print unless it is essential and we print on both sides of the paper reusing where appropriate. We have an on-site bottle recycling point and we separate and recycle most of our office waste.
When communicating with competitors we only do so through email eliminating paper usage.
