Kayaking Event Rules

All competitors must:
  1.  Be water confident/ or be able to swim
  2.  Have use of seaworthy craft, buoyancy aid, paddle and appropriate clothing.
  3.  Have a basic level of paddling experience, paddlers considering entering the various classes should be capable of paddling the appropriate distance of that class.
  4.  Wear a BA or life jacket
  5.  Carry a whistle
  6.  Attend safety briefing
  7.  Dress according to the weather
  8.  Offer assistance to a fellow paddler if needed
  9.  Inform the organizers if they withdraw from race
  10.  Wear a Spray deck for the 20km and 10km course.

 

Kayak Boat Rules:

20km Course:

This course is aimed at very experienced competitive paddlers using high performance sea racing or touring craft.

 

Racing singles - boats less than 50cm in width and unlimited length (racing sea kayaks)


Racing doubles – boats under 55cm in width & unlimited length (e.g Ocean racing double skis, double racing sea kayaks)

10km Course:

This course is aimed at experienced paddlers.


Singles - boats equal to or more than 50cm in width and up to 21ft in length


Doubles – boats equal to or more than 55cm in width, unlimited length

  • Necky Chatham 18
  • Necky Eliza
  • Necky Looksha

 

For reasons of fairness, safety and responsibility people are expected to abide by the following simple rules. Remember, ignorance is no excuse and failure to comply may lead to time penalties or disqualification. Rules and/or the course may need to be modified in order to deal with unforeseen circumstances.

 

General Event Rules

On entering, competitors agree to a declaration to waive liability, confirm acceptance of the rules & agree to the release of personal images to the media and for event promotion purposes.

Note that international competitors must have the appropriate travel documents, visas & comprehensive medical insurance in place for this event. We do advice that competitors organise their own personal insurance.

  • Mandatory Kit must be worn or carried as appropriate and as specified
  • Do not trespass or cut corners – follow the event instructions 
  • Do not cheat
  • Do not litter. Any competitor found littering will face automatic disqualification.
  • Respect the environment & local inhabitants
  • Assist any persons who are in difficulty (e.g. injury) as appropriate
  • The Race Director's decision is final

 

DO
  • Look around you and enjoy the scenery!
  • Look after your mates and those around you
  • Stop and help someone who you think might be in trouble
  • Raise the alarm to the nearest marshal, or call Race HQ, if you think someone needs the event’s assistance
  • Carry the mandatory equipment at all times. It’s there for a reason.

 

DON'T
  • Worry if the clock is ticking enjoy the day.
  • DROP ANY LITTER ANYWHERE ON THE COURSE
  • Use Ipod or MP3 - you will face disqualification
