Event FAQ

1 Can I get a refund if I cannot attend?

When paying for your entry to the Turf Guy Challenge it is stipulated that this is a non-refundable payment. As soon as a competitor enters we incur costs such as admin etc. It is also not possible to transfer entries to any other Gaelforce Events, next year’s event, or a different competitor.

2 What day and time is registration?

Registration will be held at Killary Adventure Centre on the morning of the event from 8.30am until 10.30am. We will have parking available but we do ask that you please car pool were possible as it will be limited. It is also better for the environment.

Please do not park on the road outside the centre, unless a marshal informs you to.

3 What should I wear when doing Turf Guy?

Please be warned that your clothing will get extremely wet and dirty, so you do not want to wear your best running or training gear!

We highly recommend that you wear full body clothing, not just shorts and T shirt.

We also recommend that you wear a pair of Gloves to protect against the cold and also the rope sections.

Please bring a change of clean dry warm clothes with you for straight after the race.

Our staff wear wetsuits when they are running the course. This could be another option- again please note that you may damage the wetsuit.

4 Is there an event after party?

YES there will be a party on the Saturday night, the 5th November. This will be held at Killary Adventure Centre.

The after party will be Fancy Dress, the letter for 2011 being "T" - so get those thinking caps on.

The Party will start at around 9.30pm straight after the Prize giving which will be a 9pm.

5 Are there starting waves for Turf Guy?

Yes. When you enter online you must choose a wave. You cannot change this wave once you have chosen it. So if you are entering with a group of friends please make sure that you all enter the same wave as you will not be able to change it later. There will be two start times 11am and 11.30am. We will let you know closer to the event what start time your group is in.

6 Do I need to be able to swim to compete in Turf Guy?

You do not need to swim to enter Turf Guy but you do need to be comfortable in the water. There are no long distances to swim however Turf Guy will involve a Cliff jump into the sea, for the non-swimmers we will provide a bounancy aid to be worn. (You can also take the escape route and wade in the water along the shore line rather than jumping in)

There will be other areas along the course where you will be in water but if you are not happy you can take the wading option.

You also have the choice of wearing a BA in the Gorge as parts of this can be quite deep - this will not count as taking the non swimmer option.

Again it is important to note that you must be comfortable in the water to do this event.

Please note:

To become the overall Turf Guy/Gal you must compete all the challenges & obstacles and cross the line in the fastest time. This means you must take the swimming option for the water challenges.

7 Is there parking at the event?

We will have parking at the event, but it will be limited. We ask that if you are not staying in Killary Adventure Centre or Sleepzone hostel, that you please car pool. If you are staying in the hostel you can walk to the start line. Also all spectators must park at the centre and are not allowed to drive around the course.

16 Do we have a Charity Partner for Turf Guy Challenge?

For 2011 Gaelforce Events have decided not to have a chosen charity for each event. We do, however, want to encourage everyone who is competing to raise money for a charity whether it be their own local charity or an international charity. To help build the profile of each charity, let us know who you are raising money for and we will add it to the events charity page with a link to their website. If you can send us a logo for the charity we can also add this to the page.

If you work for/volunteer or would like a certain charity added to the 2011 list, please email us at info@gaelforceevents.com or call 095 42006.
