Directions and Travel

For Gaelforce West, there are a number of locations that you will have to visit.

Registration - Killary Adventure Centre in Leenane

Bike Drop - Delphi Adventure Centre 10km outside Leenane

Bus Pick up and finish line - Westport

 

Staying near the start line?

If you are staying near the start line and need a taxi to the start line please call a few days before hand to arrange this - The Local taxi number is 087 2048929

 

Travelling by car to Killary Adventure Centre

Galway city - Approx. an hour and 10min drive

If you are driving from Galway follow the signs for the N59 "Clifden" and after passing through the villages of Moycullen and Oughterard you will arrive at Maam Cross (easily distinguished by the Peacock's hotel complex on your right). At this crossroad turn right following the signs for "Leenaun". At the next T-junction at Keane's Pub, turn left. This road will bring you into the village of Leenane where you keep left and after another 3.5 miles with the Killary Fjord on your right you will see the sign for Killary Adventure Co.

Delphi Bike Drop is about 10km from Killary Adventure Centre and Westport is a half hour.

 

Westport - Approx. 35 min drive

If you are driving from Westport once in Westport look for the Leenane road and it is straight all the way. Once in Leenane continue out the Clifden road (N59) keeping the Killary Fjord on your right and we are 3.5 miles on the left hand side.

Directions from Killary Adventure Centre to Delphi Bike Drop

You will take a right turn at the exit from Killary Adventure Centre onto the N59 heading in the direction of Leenane. You should have the fjord on you left as you head towards Leenane. When you come into the village of Leenane the road continues around to the left and across the infamous Leenane bridge! This is still the N59 but you will now be heading in the direction of Westport. Approx 3.3km along this road there will be a turn off to the left with sigh posts for Asleagh Falls and Delphi Mountain resort, take this road. Continue along this road for approx 9.4km and you will arrive the bike drop off destination.

 

Train

We can be reached by train to Westport or Galway and bus/taxi from there.  Check out www.irishrail.ie.

Westport is approximately a 35 min drive from Killary Adventure and Galway is approximately an hour and 10 min drive.

Make sure to contact Irish rail about the carriage of your bike. As you will have to register and drop bike outside of Westport, you may want to car pool or share a taxi out. If so why not try placing an advert on our forum.

There is no public transport from Westport to Leenane.

 

Bus

There are public buses from a number of locations across the country to Westport. Check out the timetable on www.buseireann.ie.Make sure to check with the bus company about carriage for your bike.

The are no buses from Westport to Leenane, you may want to car pool or share a taxi out. If so why not try placing an advert on our forum

 

Flights

Galway Airport

Galway has a number of flights each day. These include Edinburgh, London Luton and Manchester. For full details on flights check out galwayairport.com.

The airport is approximately an hour and 20min drive from Killary Adventure Centre and 2 hours from Westport. The fastest route would be to head straight to Killary to register, then Delphi and finish journey in Westport.

Ireland West (Knock) Airport

Ireland West has a huge number of flights to the UK - East Midlands, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, London ( Luton, Stanstad & Gatwich) and Bristol. Check out full details at www.irelandwestairport.com.

The airport is approximately an hour from Westport which you will have to go through on your way to Killary Adventure Centre. Killary Adventure Centre is approximately 30mins from Westport.  You can hire a car from the airport here.

Please ensure that you check with your airline about the carriage of your bike and any other equipment you may have.

 

Ferry

Irish Ferries have a number of daily sailings from the UK. Check them out at www.irishferries.com. Dublin City is a 3 and half hour drive from Westport.
